Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to complete a Hidden Value Snapshot™ first?
Yes. Executive Partnership builds upon the observations and insights contained in your Hidden Value Findings™. Those findings provide the initial buyer-lens perspective needed to identify important opportunities, potential concerns, and areas that may deserve deeper attention as the relationship develops.
Need a Hidden Value Snapshot First?
If you have not yet completed a Hidden Value Snapshot, it must be completed before beginning Executive Partnership. The Snapshot provides the foundation for Executive Partnership by helping you see your business through a buyer's eyes and uncover hidden opportunities, hidden risks, overlooked issues, and areas worthy of further investigation.
Learn About The Snapshot →What is Executive Partnership?
Executive Partnership is an ongoing strategic advisory relationship for owners who want experienced guidance as they strengthen their businesses before going to market. Nick works directly with you to help identify priorities, evaluate opportunities and concerns, navigate important decisions, maintain momentum, and refine the path forward as circumstances evolve.
Is Executive Partnership a business valuation?
No. Executive Partnership does not determine the monetary value of your business and should not be considered a formal valuation, appraisal, fairness opinion, brokerage engagement, or investment banking service. Its purpose is to help you address factors that often influence buyer confidence, perceived risk, transferability, negotiating leverage, business attractiveness, and future value.
What will we focus on?
The focus will be based on your Hidden Value Snapshot Findings™, your circumstances and objectives, and the opportunities determined to deserve the greatest attention. Areas of focus may involve financial clarity, operations, processes, pricing, profitability, customer or revenue concentration, owner dependency, transferability, positioning, buyer concerns, or other matters that may influence buyer confidence, business attractiveness, and future salability.
Will I receive a Hidden Value Action Plan™?
Yes. Your Hidden Value Action Plan™ provides an organized framework for the priorities and initiatives selected for attention. Because Executive Partnership is ongoing, the Plan is not treated as a static document. It can be reviewed, refined, expanded, or reordered as progress is made, new information emerges, and business circumstances change.
Will I need to provide additional information?
Yes, when additional context is needed to properly understand an issue, evaluate an opportunity, or develop practical guidance. This may involve information or discussions related to financial performance, operations, customers, employees, systems, pricing, processes, ownership responsibilities, future objectives, or other relevant business matters. Any requested information will be based on the priorities being addressed.
Will Nick help me make important business decisions?
Nick can provide an experienced outside perspective as you evaluate significant decisions, opportunities, concerns, and tradeoffs. This may include helping you consider how a decision could affect buyer confidence, perceived risk, transferability, negotiating leverage, business value, or your broader preparation for sale. Final business decisions and responsibility for those decisions remain with you.
Will Nick implement the improvements?
Executive Partnership includes strategic guidance, planning, prioritization, accountability, review, and support as improvements are pursued. Depending upon the circumstances, Nick may also provide selected strategic, operational, marketing, financial, or advisory assistance when appropriate and separately agreed upon.
What happens when specialized expertise is needed?
Some initiatives may require assistance from attorneys, CPAs, tax professionals, valuation specialists, brokers, technology providers, operational specialists, or other qualified advisors. Nick can help you recognize when specialized expertise may be appropriate, clarify strategic objectives, and evaluate how such work fits within the broader improvement effort. The selection and engagement of outside professionals will remain your responsibility.
How often will Nick and I meet?
Meeting cadence is established according to the needs of the business, the priorities being addressed, and the pace at which meaningful progress can be made. Scheduled strategy sessions are designed to review developments, evaluate decisions, maintain accountability, address obstacles, and determine appropriate next steps.
Will I have access to Nick between scheduled sessions?
Yes. Executive Partnership includes direct access to Nick via email between scheduled sessions for questions, developments, and decisions related to your engagement. When beneficial, phone or Zoom discussions may also be utilized to provide additional clarification, perspective, or guidance. Communication methods, reasonable response expectations, and availability will be discussed and established as part of the relationship.
Will our priorities remain the same throughout the engagement?
Not necessarily. As improvements are made, additional information emerges, new concerns arise, or circumstances change, some priorities may become more important while others become less urgent. Executive Partnership is designed to accommodate these changes so that time and attention remain focused on the matters most likely to produce meaningful improvement.
How long does Executive Partnership last?
The duration is determined by your objectives, the nature and complexity of the priorities identified, the desired level of support, and the anticipated improvement timeline. The expected duration, review points, and continuation terms will be discussed and agreed upon before the engagement begins.
Why is an initial discussion required?
Executive Partnership is not a standardized engagement. It involves direct, ongoing collaboration with Nick and must be structured around your needs, circumstances, priorities, and expectations. The initial discussion helps determine whether Executive Partnership is an appropriate fit, what support may be most valuable, and how the relationship should be structured.
Is Executive Partnership right for me?
Executive Partnership is best suited for owners who are serious about strengthening their businesses before going to market, value an experienced outside perspective, want ongoing strategic guidance and accountability, and prefer direct collaboration while important improvements are being pursued. The initial discussion is intended to help both you and Nick determine whether the relationship represents an appropriate fit.
